what is the meaning of the word DIGHET in tunisian tamazight?
In the island of Djerba (Tunisia) there's a site named: "Houmet beni DIGHET", which is known due to its special species of barley, about which one can read (in the 13-th section) here: http://www.ibgs.cz/photos/book_of_ab.../Session_1.htm.
The name of this site sounds berber, but I've never succeeded to find the meaning of the third word of the name: "DIGHET". Unfortunately, I don't speak berber, nor do I read arabic (I just speak arabic, or rather: the tunisian dialect of arabic). So, maybe you are indeed the person who might be able to solve the old riddle: what is "dighet" in tunisian-berber?
tunisian berber is called DJERBIT (chelha), and is a zenati-language, thus being very similar to TARITIT (riffain) of northern Morocco, and to TACHAWIT (chaouia) of eastern Algeria.
Who speaks either tarifit or tachawit, or djerbit? Also TANAFUSIT (of western Lybia) may help!

Welcome Eliko, I'm not a tunisian so I can't really help you about the meaning of this word "Dighet"
I'm a tamzight from Marroco,precisly from Arrif, and in my language, "dighet" means a sheep or a goat not sure lol!
but in the contexte I don't think that it's the same word in tunisian tamazight!
maybe someone here could be able to help you!
maybe "dighet"is just a tribal name, because there is "beni" before, and in Marroco for exemple, when we want to talk about a tribe or a clan we say, "beni warieghel" "beni touzine"
"beni" is the name in arabic, if we want to say it in tamazight, we replace "beni" by "ait"
so i think,just a hypothesis,that "dighet" is the name of a "clan" or a "tribe"
but it have to be confirmed...

si quelqu'un sait ce que veut dire "Dighet"en amazigh de Tunisie, c'est ce qu'il veut, seulement ya pas d'imazighen tunisien sur ce site a ma connaissance...il faudrait demander a Amsbrid il maitrise presque toutes les variantes de tamazight, il saura peut etre(amsbrid si tu lis )

there is a site wich talk about some legend in the island of djerba!
and it's talk about "dighet"
there was a lot of jews in the island of Djerba,and there was a pelgrimage(not sure it is the real word lol)to Ghriba where there was a "synagogue" temple...
but the "temple" was destroyed and some jews kept a piece of the temple's door(right or left door...)
wich was called "delet" in hebrew language,and Delet became Dighet...
hope you will understand what I try to explain you, the site is in french but I give you the link if you want to translate it better
